Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the government would soon appoint the chairman and two members of the Commission. These officials will oversee the comprehensive review process, which includes consulting with central and state governments, employee unions, and other stakeholders. This step ensures that the recommendations are inclusive and address the concerns of all parties involved.

The 8th Pay Commission will follow the precedent set by previous commissions. Historically, pay commissions are established every decade to reassess and revise the salary structure of central government employees. The 7th Pay Commission, which was constituted in 2016, introduced significant changes, such as a fitment factor of 2.57. This multiplier increased the minimum basic salary from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000 per month. While the fitment factor played a vital role in salary adjustments, employee unions had initially demanded a higher factor of 3.68.

Currently, there are over 4.9 million central government employees and nearly 6.5 million pensioners who will directly benefit from the upcoming recommendations. The establishment of the 8th Pay Commission aims to ensure that salary and allowance revisions are implemented on time, reflecting the government’s commitment to employee welfare.

The process of forming the commission and finalizing its recommendations will take into account inflation, economic conditions, and employee demands. This ensures that the revisions are balanced and sustainable.
